Wrong Side of the Law

 

Yup, you guessed it, I got pulled over. Danny, Oak and I were driving home from a youth devotional at our church, all dressed up in our Sunday best, and I decided to take a different way home. I turned right on a road out of town, and immediately realized I wasn't sure of the speed limit...

Me - "Danny, did you see a speed limit sign?"

Danny - "No, you're driving!"

Me - "I'm not sure if it's 70 or 100, so I'm just gonna go 80." (kilometers per hour, not mph :D)

Me - "There's a lot of cars behind us."

Danny - "Can you get pulled over for going too slow?"

Me - "You'd have to be holding up traffic. It doesn't really happen."

Barely a minute later, I checked my mirror again, and there was a police car right behind me! Still unsure of the speed limit I slowed down to 75 just in case... and his lights went on. I still wasn't sure if I had been going too fast, too slow, or had some other problem, but I pulled over, turned down the EFY music on my iPod, and rolled down the window.

He told me that he pulled me over cause I was going too slow! I apologized, and told him I had been unsure of the speed limit. He laughed and then asked me where I was from and how long we'd been here. (Is my accent really that obvious???) After I answered, he asked how we were enjoying Taranaki, and I said we were loving it. He seemed to like that. He checked that I had a full license, then had me do a breath test, and when it came up negative he glanced at our white shirts and ties and muttered, "I didn't think so." I laughed, he wished us a nice day, and that was that.

I think the best part of the whole episode was mom and dad's faces when I told them I got pulled over... *pause for suspense* ...for going too slow!
